How to schedule WhatsApp messages
Neither WhatsApp nor WhatsApp Business lets you write a message now and send it later. The WhatsApp Business API does: you can set a campaign for a date and time, or have a reminder go out at exactly the right moment.

What WhatsApp itself can do
- There's no scheduled send in WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business. WhatsApp is testing one in a beta, but it hasn't reached everyone yet (October 2026).
- You can put the away message in the Business app on a schedule. That's an automatic reply, though, not a message you send at a set time.
- Third-party apps that send messages through your WhatsApp account break WhatsApp's terms, and can get your number banned.

WhatsApp's rules
What a scheduled message has to follow
- If you start the conversation, the message must be a template that Meta approved beforehand. Meta charges per delivered message.
- Only message customers who agreed to hear from you.
- If a customer messaged you in the last 24 hours, you can reply freely, no template needed.

A flow sends a message at a moment that follows from what happens, without anyone pressing a button.

A question that comes in on Saturday night gets its answer on Monday morning, as soon as you're open.
Big sends spread out
If a campaign is bigger than Meta allows in a day, Tobachat spreads it across several. You see the daily split before you start.

Campaigns, flows and the assistant are in every plan. A scheduled message costs the same at Meta as one sent right away: for Dutch numbers, € 0.1323 for marketing and € 0.0414 for a reminder or update.
